Greater Than The Darkness

I have heard so many say that - in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings - that we live in a horrid, cruel world.  Indeed, it's easy to feel that way in the aftermath of tragedy, particularly when the tragedy is caused by another human being.  However, I think that it is important to remember that what we see is a very small representation of humanity.  Call me naive, but I refuse to believe that humanity is - in and of itself - evil.  I see so much good in our world.  I won't hide indoors and shelter my boy from the world.  I won't just give up and say "What horrible times are these!"  I won't - I refuse to live in fear.

The reason I won't live in fear...

...because the people running to help outnumber the people who would do us harm.
...because after the storms, the sun eventually shines again.  It's beautiful when it does.  It helps us forget - temporarily - that there was a storm at all.
...because I am reminded each day that prayer helps, kindness heals, and love always wins.
...because I see my baby's smile each day - even on the hardest days - and it heals my soul.
...because I love and I know I am loved.
...because my boy loves and is loved in return.
...because love truly is the most powerful gift we can give.

This may be a short one today because there's little that needs to be said, but it's important to remember that through all of the evil, darkness, and despair that may exist today, the light outshines.  Darkness can't overshadow the good in the world.  Don't hide from humanity.  Don't fear.  Don't allow someone to have that power over you.  Be the light you want to see in the world.
